GREENVILLE - A team of local high school students - and their robot - are scheduled to be the featured attractions at a kick-off ceremony for the upcoming FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) campaign.
Vanessa Pope, coach of the Greenville High School/L-3 Communications Robowranglers Team, said the "Parent's Night" event is set for 7:30pm Monday at Innovation First, 1519 Interstate 30 West, just outside the west Greenville city limits.
Pope said the team will be unveiling its newest "machine" during the ceremony.
"We're very excited about this coming year," Pope said, adding the team will be competing in regional battles in St. Louis and New Orleans in the coming months.
"And we have already qualified for the championships in Atlanta," Pope said.
Last year, the Greenville High School Robowranglers Vex Team 1148, sponsored by Rack Solutions, a division of Innovation First, won the national championship in the FIRST Vex Challenge competition, while the Greenville High School/L-3 Communications Robowranglers Team 148 made it to the quarterfinals and finished in the top 20 of their division during the FIRST Robotics championship.
